" Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads ," wrote Henry David Thoreau. In 1845, Thoreau left Boston for the woods around Walden Pond in Lincoln , Massachusetts . There he lived in a small self-constructed cabin, for nearly two years, contemplating man's relationship to the natural world. Today, Thoreau is recognized as the father of Conservation, and his writings in Walden, Or Life in the Woods, continue to inspire naturalists. The Walden Woods Weeping Willow is among the many beautiful trees at Walden.
