Andersonville Southern Magnolia

Andersonville was the site of the largest prison run by the Confederate Army. 15,000 Union soldiers were imprisoned there throughout the war. Many of these prisoners died. After the war Clara Barton helped to identify bodies of the dead, and it is believed that she planted the many trees that served as grave markers for the dead.
